3. AM Isco

Don Carlo and attacking midfielders is a love affair for the ages and he is once again proving how much he loves working with such players. Isco could very well be the latest example to join the list. Another out-of-favor star from last season, Isco has had a few very positive appearances under the new boss so far in the season. His season has looked very similar to Marco Asensio, minus the hat-trick.

Isco has had two starts so far in the season and three appearances off the bench. He did a great job covering for the injured Luka Modric before the International break. In fact, his performance against Levante in a tough 3-3 draw very much showed that he still has a place in this squad. He had another great cameo in the last game against Mallorca where he also got on the scoresheet after some decent work from Vinicius Junior which would be a confidence boost nonetheless.

Another impressive part of Isco’s game this season has been his defensive contribution. The Spaniard already has seven tackles and two clearances from five appearances in the season so far, per WhoScored. He is also troubling opponents with his movement and winning freekicks regularly for his side. He has so far won seven freekicks in his limited time. He has also been decently regular in placing key passes.

The best thing about Isco stepping up is that he rescues Carlo Ancelotti’s problem of depth in midfield. With Toni Kroos out with a groin injury, Real Madrid desperately needed a rotational option and Isco has emerged as much more than just that. If players like him and Asensio continue in this form there might not be as big a problem as we assumed in Real’s midfield. That being said, Isco deserves all appreciation so far for his hard work and he surely has recovered a lot of his confidence in the new season.
