CB Eder Militao

We end with another central defender. It feels weird not picking a midfielder, as both Fede Valverde and even super-sub Eduardo Camavinga have been vital. But with Casemiro struggling a bit, Toni Kroos injured, and Luka Modric not able to shine as brightly due to the situations of the other veteran midfielders, Eder Militao gets the nod.

Of course, he isn’t in the fifth spot as a consolation. No, no, Militao has been excellent in his own right. He was colossal in the Champions League clean sheet against Inter, shutting down one of the world’s most dangerous strikers in Lautaro Martinez. Militao was just as good against Villarreal, and he had a couple of crucial stops in a win over Valencia, too.

Whether it is LaLiga or the Champions League, Eder Militao has shown he is capable of playing at the highest level at center back. While he is not as accomplished on the ball as former left back David Alaba, the young central defender is completing 91.1 percent of his passes in league play. And he is not afraid to impact the attack by testing a longer pass or even testing the goalkeeper with a header. Or volley.

Militao showed he can be the future of Real Madrid’s defense with his brilliance to close the 2020-2021 season, and he has basically picked up where he left off in the current campaign. Without his work and the work of his partner Alaba, Real would not be in first, because these two men have overcome so many defensive issues at the fullback and midfield positions to make sure Los Blancos remain undefeated in LaLiga.
