Nacho and Valverde are just not good enough at the right back position

The third reason Ancelotti should trust Lucas at RB is the downsides of playing Nacho and Valverde there.

Nacho is mainly a CB, but he has already played at CB, RB, and even LB since the start of this season. His versatility is remarkable, but he should be avoided to play in the full-back positions. The reason? Lack of depth at CB. Real Madrid has only three worthy players that can play in central defense. These are Nacho, Alaba, and Militao. Playing Nacho at RB would mean that all three CB candidates would be playing once at a time. This is highly risky. God forbid, if anyone limps off injured, it could severely downgrade the defense.

Playing Valverde at right-back also has severe downsides, as we saw in the Villareal game. The midfield completely lacked the energy that Fede provides. This resulted in Villareal dominating the middle of the park. Moreover, there weren’t any extra elements defensively that Valverde could provide and others can’t. So playing Fede Valverde in RB turned out to be a lose-lose situation for the team.
