Nacho has been the most reliable player for Real Madrid and it was expected that he would be the central defender beside Eder Militao with Ferland Mendy injured, and David Alaba would play as the left full back. However, it has been quite the opposite as even with the Austrian available, Ancelotti chose to use Nacho as a left back against Valencia and Inter Milan in September.

Going forward from the left hand side, Nacho offers little to nothing and looks a bit lost even defensively. He played as a right back against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Champions League and again to no avail as he was the one responsible for the Moldovan side bagging its first goal at the Bernabeu. Not only has he let down as a full back, his performances as a central defender were not praiseworthy either.

He played in the heart of defence against Celta Vigo and his poor marking and communication with the rest of the lot was cause for concern. It eventually led to the Galicians scoring twice, thankfully though in a 5-2 thumping for them. Nacho unlike some others in the squad is a fan favourite so the faithful won’t immediately jump on him but a rapid improvement is necessary in October.
