It’s not been the easiest week for Real Madrid fans with zero wins in their last three fixtures. Los Blancos were on the end of a humiliating defeat against Sheriff in the UEFA Champions League before taking on RCD Espanyol in La Liga.

To everyone’s surprise, Vincente Moreno’s Espanyol side deservedly clinched three points on home soil against Los Blancos handing them their first league loss in the process. While there are several reasons why Madrid succumbed to Espanyol, one of the most important reasons would be a lack of defensive structure. This was prevalent against Sheriff too in the Champions League fixture.

Note, Real Madrid bid goodbye to both Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane in the same window after forming a rock-solid centre-back duo for the past several seasons. It was obvious that their absence would be felt heavily and the injuries to Ferland Mendy and Dani Carvajal haven’t made things better for the club. There are issues all over the defense for Real Madrid right now.

Given the current state of the team, we could expect some transfer activity in the upcoming winter Mercato. Carlo Ancelotti could push for reinforcements in certain areas. Let’s look at five possible outcomes that could be on the cards in January.
