REAL MADRID DESPERATELY NEED DEFENSIVE REINFORCEMENTS

While Carlo Ancelotti’s attacking brand of football reaped results by outscoring the opposition, the question was how long can it last. Relying simply on scoring and not defending has worked before, but that was when Real had a far better team.

Well, that has not lasted too long and Real Madrid have now gone three games without a win and have scored only two goals in the process.

One thing is for certain, the team lacks a defensive structure which was bound to happen following the departures of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane. While there’s no point crying over split milk, Real Madrid can do better and Carlo Ancelotti needs reinforcements in the defence.

Ferland Mendy’s return will be a huge sigh of relief for the backline but Dani Carvajal’s lack of continuity due to injuries is alarming. Real Madrid also lacks a proper cover for Carvajal as his natural replacement is in the Serie A on loan with Fiorentina.

Lucas Vazquez has not been a great deputy so far at the right-back position and has often been scapegoated for the recent results. Nacho seems like a better option at the right-back position but there’s always an option of looking into a possible signing.

Villarreal’s Juan Foyth has been impressive for the past two seasons, the former Tottenham Hotspur defender can play in multiple positions across the backline and can even play in midfield. He’s an ideal target to look out for in January. Another option is Pedro Porro, Real Madrid have been interested in him for a while and could consider making a move in January.
