REAL MADRID NEED A FIXED FORMATION FOR THE SEASON

Barring a three-man defensive backline, it is fair to say that Carlo Ancelotti has tried out several formations which involve four defenders. The former Everton head coach is yet to lock in on a shape for the remainder of the campaign and now is a better time than ever to fix that. Ancelotti will have almost zero injuries by the end of the international break for the first time this season.

A 4-3-3 may suit the squad best because of the number of wingers in the side as well as the capability of several midfielders to play in all the spots in the centre of the park. Marco Asensio has also been turned into a midfielder by Ancelotti under a similar formula he used with Angel di Maria eight years ago, and Isco is also now an option to consider given his rejuvenation.

Luka Modric needs to be given a rest as well and for that reason, the squad depth also needs to be put to good use. The likes of Jesus Vallejo, Dani Ceballos and Mariano Diaz are yet to play a single minute this season and may knock on the door for at least something, and Ancelotti, knowing his character may decide in favour of giving them a few opportunities- interesting times ahead.
