Real Madrid is going through a rough patch of form with two back-to-back defeats with the same 2-1 scoreline. As such, it seems pretty clear that Real Madrid is suffering terribly in the defense, their center-backs have played awfully. Especially when Nacho started alongside Eder Militao. The right-back situation isn’t ideal either. With the only pure right-back, Dani Carvajal injured, Lucas Vazquez and Nacho who have both faired terribly in the position so far are forced to step up.

The opposite flank has several options. But, the major problem is that both Marcelo and Ferland Mendy are injured and Carlo Ancelotti’s first-choice back four isn’t taking shape as expected. With all that in mind, the need to sign defenders in the upcoming transfer window looks inevitable. Here are my picks for overlooked transfer targets in defense for Los Blancos.

5. Bayer Leverkusen RB Jeremie Frimpong

The first player to kick start this list is a young right-back who is silently making his name known around the footballing community. Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong was a graduate of the Academy at Manchester City, he played through the ranks in the English Club and then joined Celtic, a club where he absolutely shined. He made his move to the Bundesliga in 2020/21 and since then has been similarly shining for Bayer.

This season alone, Frimpong has had five assists in nine games in the Bundesliga and the Europa League combined, per WhoScored. He is the sort of young man who loves to get forward and contribute to the attack. He is often available for overlaps or to drill balls in. Defensively, he reads the game well and stops balls from getting through, blocking has always been a strong suit for the Dutchman, who also has Ghanaian Citizenship.

He is a good passer of the ball and dribbles comfortably in wide spaces. He could be a great asset to Real Madrid, someone they can bring in at minimal cost to fit their recent strategy of buying youngsters. He is currently valued at 10 million euros by Transfermarkt and at that price point, Los Blancos can take a calculated risk to see his fit in the squad. The only reason why he is placed at the bottom of this list is his weakness in the air. Real Madrid already is suffering in their aerial duels and bringing in another defender who is just 170 cm tall could be a contested issue.
