If Real Madrid going for a 28-year-old Paul Pogba makes enough sense, then keeping an eye on one of Bundesliga’s best defensive midfielders who is 26 years old should make sense too. FC Koln’s mainstay in defensive midfield, Ellyes Skhiri has been in tremendous form this season having already scored thrice in seven league appearances. That is an incredible scoring record for a defensive midfielder.

The Tunisian International, Ellyes Skhiri has been a consistent performer for Koln for a couple of seasons now after joining the German Club from Ligue 1 outfit, Montpellier. He has been contributing in both defensive and attacking areas of the pitch. He had five goals and two assists last season and a goal and three assists in the one preceding that. He has been among goal involvements which aren’t his primary duty as a defensive midfielder.

But, he has been more than impressive in his defensive chores too. This season alone, he is averaging three tackles and two interceptions every match. All that having scored thrice should speak volumes about his work rate and commitment to the game. Similar to Casemiro, Skhiri is someone who loves to launch attacks straight out of recoveries he does so with his precise long balls where he’s averaged 2.7 so far this season, per FBref.

Although it is hard deciding where he’ll fit in this new Real Madrid squad especially after Camavinga’s signing, he indeed is the best option there could be in defensive midfield transfer target-wise in all of Bundesliga. And, that makes his case for a spot on this list.
