Real Madrid’s defense is under serious questions right now. Especially so after two back-to-back losses against Espanyol and FC Sheriff. As such, it is clear that the need is for a few defensive signings and the clubs seem to have set their heart at either Jules Kounde or Pau Torres. It indeed can prove to be a smart move to bring in a player that has considerable experience in LaLiga. However, at the same time, Real Madrid’s recent links with Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger hints that the club has kept their options open.

Considering how David Alaba’s time is progressing at Madrid, it could be a lucrative option to bring in an experienced defender who is playing at their prime or is about to enter their prime. Footballing prime can be a subjective issue however it is referred to as the span of years when a footballer is at their best playing form. Here are my picks for five such defenders that Real Madrid should keep an eye on.

5. FC Metz RB Fabien Centonze

Real Madrid’s right-back situation has been a long-standing issue for quite some time now. Dani Carvajal is one of the bests in the world in that position but is prone to injuries, he missed quite a big chunk of action due to injuries. This season too, the season has been similar. He was sidelined for three weeks and his return is yet blurry for the upcoming matches.

As such, I previously analyzed the cases for few right-backs in our list of overlooked defender targets for Real Madrid. But, if the club looks for a player who is entering his prime and could be a quick solution to their problems, FC Metz’s Fabien Centonze could be a player to look out for. He has been in fine form this season having already scored thrice in Ligue 1 so far, per FBref.

Centonze is a modern fullback who loves venturing forward and contributing to attacks. He is 25 years old right now and is a composed and matured player. Although his goal involvements aren’t sky-high he gets into progressive positions with regularity and looks to make things happen.

Defensively, he is a very sound player who values tackling and intercepting equally. He is especially strong in clearing the ball and blocking shots which is a reflection of his concentrate and composed nature on the ball. He has two more years remaining on his contract after this season. And, keeping in mind, his Transfermarkt valuation of just 8 million euros, he could be a smart investment for Los Blancos.
