Real Madrid’s defense has been a major talking point this season, and it’s for all the wrong reasons. There have been problems in defense ever since the departure of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane earlier this summer, and with the injuries to Real’s starting full-backs, the situation has only gotten worse.

Ferland Mendy hasn’t played a single minute of football for Madrid this season, however, he has been training for a while and in my opinion, he should join the squad in the next couple of weeks. As for the other side, there’s nothing we can say that will improve Real’s situation. Dani Carvajal is still injured, and he hasn’t really been fully fit for a long time. Each time he returns from injury, there is a minor/major setback just waiting to happen, and Carvajal is sent back to the treatment room.

This has raised rumors about Real Madrid being interested in a couple of full-backs. However, Fabrizio Romano on his Twitch channel gave us an update regarding the whole right-back situation at Real Madrid.

Real Madrid have shown no interest in a right-back as of now, per Fabrizio Romano

Fabrizio Romano told his Twitch chat on Tuesday that there has been no talks from Los Blancos regarding the signing of a right-back.

I think this is something that should change soon. The right-back situation is something that requires more attention from the higher-ups at Real Madrid, especially considering how injury-prone our current first-choice right-back has become.

Moreover, his back-ups are only makeshift ones, there’s no natural right-back in the squad apart from Dani Carvajal. The ones that they do have, Nacho Fernandez, a centre-back (who’s not been great this season at any position) and Lucas Vazquez, a winger, haven’t done well.

Vazquez did pretty well last season, which is why he was offered a contract extension, but there has been nothing of that sort this season, which has caused some panic among Real fans. The output from Real Madrid’s right side is slowly diminishing, and they need to invest in a full-back with great potential if they want to dominate on all fronts.

So far the club is focusing on strengthening the midfield and the attack but the defense also requires a lot of attention, and it must change when Real Madrid finally start buying players for the present and future.
