Real Madrid will be active players in the 2022 summer transfer window. Last year, they signed nobody in the first pandemic summer but made several sales in order to set themselves up nicely for the future. This past summer, they pursued Kylian Mbappe until the end, but they ended up spending just 30 million euros to bring in Eduardo Camavinga, with their other signing being the “free” acquisition of defender David Alaba.
Los Blancos will make more moves next summer in order to recreate a Galactic XI capable of winning Champions Leagues and competing with the likes of Chelsea, PSG, and Manchester City. But while they will be active, they will mostly target free agents and undervalued players, including Erling Haaland with his release clause that is essentially half of his true value.
Paul Pogba is squarely near the top of the list of midfielders. The Manchester United star will become a free agent in 2022, and he has been linked to Madrid for years. This saga has been ongoing, and it would be quite the scene if Real picked him up after Zinedine Zidane, who asked for Pogba’s signing, resigned.
According to a report from Sergio Santos Chozas of AS, Real Madrid are very much going after Pogba in 2022. Their goal is to get the French national team trio of Karim Benzema, Kylian Mbappe, and Pogba on the same team. Seemingly, this had been Zidane’s dream, too, though pretty much every Madridista has been hoping for this elite triumvirate of attacking-minded players.
This trio’s chemistry could blossom further at Real Madrid
Benzema, Mbappe, and Pogba all have incredible chemistry with each other and have complementing skill-sets. They are all intelligent, highly technical footballers who can create goals out of thin air, as we saw during France’s triumphant Nations League run. Even in the Euros, Pogba was sublime with his passing, and Benzema was on fire. Mbappe had some issues in front of goal, but the skill was always present.
At Real Madrid, they would get to play together for nearly 3,000 minutes across a full season, if not more, and they could have a few good years together, until Benzema presumably finishes his career back at Lyon.
Pogba is an achievable signing in 2022, depending on if he chooses to stay at United or not. Real Madrid vs. United could be the battle here, much like PSG vs. Real is the showdown regarding pending free agent Mbappe. In United’s case, they do have more of an advantage in keeping Pogba, thanks to the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo in the 2021 summer window.
