Marcelo Brozovic

The third player on our list is Luka Modric’s Croatian teammate, Marcelo Brozovic. Similar to the previous two players on our list, Brozovic hasn’t made any real progress on his extension with his current club. According to the report from The Hard Tackle (via Defense Central), Brozovic is keen to join Los Blancos.

The 28-year-old is at the peak of his career, and he is a pivotal member of both Inter and the Croatian national team. Brozovic played a crucial role in Inter winning the Serie A last season.

Real Madrid already has a world-class midfield. However, some players like Isco and Ceballos will likely leave by summer 2022, while Luka Modric’s contract will expire next summer. Even if Modric extends his stay at the Spanish capital, he wouldn’t feature as regularly and would inevitably require rest. In this regard, adding Brozovic to the midfield would certainly be a good choice.

Marcelo Brozovic had a brilliant 2020/21 campaign, and his stats are very impressive. He had a decent passing accuracy of 89.6%, higher than the likes of Modric and fellow target Paul Pogba. He scored 2 goals and provided 6 assists, meaning he had equal goal-contributions as Modric and higher than Pogba. The Inter midfielder also boasts higher average passes per game than the aforementioned duo.

Currently, the club sees Paul Pogba as their priority addition in midfield. However, if Pogba extends his stay with United, Brozovic has a strong case for being a viable alternative.
