RB Lucas Vazquez

Great game from Vazquez. Wow, I did not expect to say these words today, but I am, and it seems like the Spaniard always performs well against Barcelona. Three games in a row against Barcelona where Lucas has started at right-back, and all of them have been great performances. This was probably his best game of the season. He had a few bad moments, especially at the start of the game but I was expecting him to have those moments. He lost the ball rather carelessly while hugging the sidelines in the first half, and made a couple of weird decisions while positioning himself in transition.

But, the rest was great from Vazquez. He defended really well, and the task ahead of him wasn’t at all that easy. He managed to keep Fati relatively quiet, and Depay didn’t have a fantastic time when he was on the wings either. To top it all off, he managed to score a goal in stoppage time. Extra points for that.

CB Eder Militao

Decent game from the Brazilian centre-back. There was a lot going on in Real Madrid’s defensive third when Barcelona barged in with so many crosses, and Militao was crucial in dealing with them all. Was tidy in possession, although he did give the ball away a couple of times in the first half. He also let Gerard Pique have a free header at goal in the first 45, which wasn’t very nice. But yes, other than that, he was decent.

CB David Alaba

Let me say this once and for all: There’s no better way to introduce yourself in the biggest club game on the planet. The Austrian was arguably the best player on the pitch. Alaba scored an amazing goal on one end, a break that he started by winning possession and playing it to Vinicius. Vinicius played a switch to Rodrygo, who gave the ball to Alaba, who shot it fiercely from the edge of the box into the far corner. Incredible goal from an incredible player.

Alaba was great on the defensive end as well. He made a cruicial block that prevented Fati’s shot from troubling Courtois. It could’ve been a goal if not for Alaba. He’s truly showing everyone that he’s the best player that has joined any La Liga team this season. Probably his best game of the season. Awesome performance.

LB Ferland Mendy

Mendy had a pretty good game himself. He was defensively sound, keeping literally everyone at arm’s length and defending diligently. Gavi, Dest, Mingueza, Coutinho, it didn’t matter who was on the ball. He won the ball almost every single time, well, of course, except for the final Bacelona chance of the game, through which Aguero scored. He went forward and was involved in the attack as well, and he did well. Good game from the best defensive full-back in the world.
