VICTOR OSIMHEN – NAPOLI

In a previous article on The Real Champs, I covered a piece on Victor Osimhen being targeted by Bayern Munich and Real Madrid. The Nigerian international is enjoying a great spell of form in front of goal this season, having already scored five goals in eight games in Serie A. In the Europa League, Osimhen has scored four goals in three games, thus contributing to a combined total of nine goals in 11 games.

The 22-year-old has been a key player under Luciano Spalleti and has played a pivotal role in the club’s bright start in the league. Napoli are currently placed second below AC Milan but have a game in hand to their advantage.

While Osmihen has grown into a popular figure for the press recently, the 22-year-old had started turning heads with his performances in France two years ago with LOSC Lille. He had scored 18 goals and provided six assists in 38 fixtures for Lille in the 2019-20 season with Lille which eventually earned him his transfer to Napoli last season for 71 million euros.

Since then, Osmihen has been delivering the goods for Napoli and is currently one of the best forward’s in Serie A. According to the stats provided on FbRef, Victor Osimhen averages almost 4 shots per 90 minutes and creates 3.18 shot-creating actions per game in the Serie A this season ( offensive actions that directly lead to a shot such as a pass, dribble, etc).  The 22-year-old is also a fast runner on and off the ball making him a deadly asset during counter-attacks. He’s also solid and strong in the air.

While Osimhen is a menace for defenders during attacking transitions, he also helps out the team when out of possession. Statistics show that the 22-year-old averages 16.77 presses per 90 ( number of times applying pressure to an opposition player). His athleticism helps him in continuously pressing the opposition backline to help win back the ball immediately.

Real Madrid have already shown interest in signing Victor Osmihen, however, as I mentioned in my earlier article that Los Blancos are not as interested in the Nigerian as other clubs such as Bayern Munich are.

There’s no doubting Osmihen’s talent, he would definitely be a huge asset to the club if Luka Jovic and Mariano Diaz are sold next summer. That is if only Real Madrid are able to find a buyer for both Jovic and Mariano who seemed to have turned into immoveable assets due to their hefty wages and contracts with the club.

Nonetheless, He would be a great backup to Karim Benzema but his transfer next year to the Spanish capital looks unlikely.

The club’s priority is Kylian Mbappe who reportedly has an agreement with Real Madrid and now the club are keen on tying down Erling Haaland as well. At the moment, Victor Osimhen is not on the priority list for Madrid and I doubt that would change in the coming months. It looks like Bayern Munich might just be in the driving seat to sign the 22-year-old next summer as a potential replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
