Real Madrid are in the process of assembling a team to dominate the future of football. Florentino Perez and Jose Angel Sanchez have been working tirelessly to sign elite youngsters who have the potential to develop further into world-class players.

The Merengues already host some of the best talents in the game such as Eder Militao (23), Rodrygo (20), and Vinicius Jr (21) who has already stamped his authority this season as a world-class player.

But Real Madrid’s quest for perfection does not end there. It’s well known that Los Blancos are interested in Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe – two of the best youngsters in world football. Their signings have been made a priority in the Spanish capital.

While Kylian Mbappe would most likely join the club on a free transfer, Erling Haaland’s transfer is expected to cost a humungous sum. According to Toni Kroos’ agent, Volker Struth, Erling Haaland’s transfer will happen in the summer of 2022 and a complete five-year deal would approximately cost anything between 250-300 million euros in terms of wages and agent commissions.

"Volker Struth (Toni Kroos’ agent): “Haaland’s transfer will happen in 2022. He has a release clause. The complete package with salary for 5 years + commissions for the agent would be around €250-300m.”"

Is Erling Haaland worth all that money for Real Madrid?

Let’s look into a hypothetical situation. In the summer of 2022, Real Madrid officially signs Erling Haaland on a five-year contract until 2026. The total package/deal would cost Madrid 300 million euros in terms of wages and commissions ( excluding the transfer fee paid to Borussia Dortmund).

In this case, Real Madrid would be paying approximately 60 million euros a season to the Norwegian international. The club’s highest-paid player at the moment is Gareth Bale, who roughly earns a figure close to 35-40 million euros a year. But 60 million euros a year would actually not be that bad a deal for a player like Haaland who would easily score 40-50 goals a season. At least, that’s what I think.

Next season, Real Madrid will be offloading several players such as Gareth Bale ( highest-earner), Isco, and Marcelo who are on the back of expiring contracts. Meanwhile, other players like, Eden Hazard, Luka Jovic, Mariano Diaz, and Dani Ceballos could also be shown the door. These departures would further reduce the wage payroll and could create enough buffer to accommodate Haaland’s and Mbappe’s wages.

While Haaland’s proposed deal by his agent is quite expensive, the club could end up recovering a significant amount through merchandise and season ticket sales as more fans would want to see an attack with Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.

The financial investment required in signing Erling Haaland could pay off well as his presence could be key in guiding Real Madrid to success in Spain and Europe which would ultimately bring more money to the club’s coffers as prize money.

The Norwegian is a goal-scoring machine and has performed exceptionally well in the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League. He’s scored 49 goals in 49 games in the Bundesliga and has 21 goals in 20 games in the Champions League. He’s simply a goal-scoring freak.

Real Madrid needs a goal-scoring machine like Erling Haaland, but it would come at the cost of 300 million euros. Should Los Blancos still continue their pursuit for the Norwegian or should they pull out from the race due to his demands?
