Why Real Madrid might offer PSG a transfer fee for Kylian Mbappe this winter
Real Madrid are very close to getting their dream signing. There’s not a long time left between now and January 1, the day on which Mbappe will be able to negotiate with other clubs freely without seeking permission from PSG, his current club. That is, of course, if he doesn’t sign a contract extension.
Judging by the lack of rumors and the lack of advancement in the contract negotiations, I think Mbappe will be a free agent next summer. That means Real Madrid will be able to talk to and hopefully settle the deal with Mbappe in the first month of 2022.
However, there’s a report from MARCA that talks about something worth paying attention to. It mentions that Real Madrid might offer a transfer fee and try to sign Kylian Mbappe in January itself.
There’s a chance Kylian Mbappe joins Real Madrid in January, per source
Well, obviously nothing is confirmed yet. Real Madrid are reportedly thinking of making an offer to maintain a good relationship with PSG. They don’t know what the French club will do regarding this offer, but they want to prove to them that all of the transfer talks at the end of this summer weren’t just to show Mbappe that the club tried their best but wasn’t able to sign him. They actually want to make an offer that gets PSG some sort of money back in January, rather than losing him for free in the summer.
What fee is going to be offered hasn’t been disclosed, and obviously, we don’t know if PSG will accept this, but yes, there’s that.
If you ask me, Real Madrid should not try to play nice with PSG for Kylian Mbappe this winter. They have no reason to do that. Consider this, they already tried playing nice with them in the summer. Offering 180-200 million Euros for a player whose contract expires in the next summer? In my opinion, it’s a lot about wanting Mbappe imminently, but it’s also about wanting to maintain a good relationship with PSG. Of course, there was a risk of Mbappe signing an extension before January. But, that risk still exists, because PSG clearly didn’t care about the money they were being offered.
The French club didn’t respond to Real Madrid’s offer, and even talked publicly about Los Blancos not doing the “right thing” after the transfer saga was over. I don’t know if spending so much money on a player you can get for free at that same time just to maintain a good relationship with his club is the right thing to do when you’ve already tried to do that, and failed, and got disrespected by that same club in the process.
Florentino Perez is not someone that likes to worsen relations with anyone, but, in my opinion, he’s done his part. He did what he could last summer and it didn’t work out for him, so now, I think he should just let things happen in the summer.
