Five reasons why Real Madrid will win La Liga in 2021-2022
Many people have referred to this season as a transitional one for Real Madrid as they aim to strengthen their squad significantly next summer with the possible additions of Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, and even possibly Paul Pogba. Even though none of that is set in stone at the moment, there is a lot of excitement for the summer transfer window, so much excitement that we are slightly forgetting that this season is progressing and it’s doing so quite nicely so far for Real Madrid. Even though the words ‘transitional season’ are thrown around quite a lot with the team this year, there is really no such thing as that for the club who will still do everything they can to win all trophies available.
At the moment, Los Merengues have their destiny in their own hands and genuinely have a very good chance of winning the league if things keep going the way they are this season. With only Real Sociedad ahead of them (who have played one game more than Real Madrid), Los Blancos will be champions if they win all their games.
Obviously, that’s a lot easier said than done but it is still noteworthy because it is something that the team should keep in mind as extra motivation to fight for the title. There are also other reasons for us to put next summer aside for now and focus on what Carlo Ancelotti’s squad is doing for us to be optimistic.
Goals, Goals, Goals
In the most basic of terms, Real Madrid’s plan this season is to score more goals than the opponent does. The team is flying high with 28 goals scored so far during the league campaign in the opening twelve matches. Even though their last three games have ended with lower-scoring matches – a goalless draw against Osasuna followed by two 2-1 victories against Elche and Rayo Vallecano – that doesn’t mean that we should let go of the fact that they aim to take the ‘offense is the best defense’ theory to the pitch.
With all the focus on the attack though, the burden falls on the defense. Real Madrid have been conceding goals in almost every match in the league with Thibaut Courtois only coming out with a clean sheet three times this season against Real Betis, Villarreal, and Osasuna. This is a massive red flag for the defense who have numerous problems during the season which Ancelotti has been trying to address but hasn’t done so effectively as of now.
Injuries have played a part but the lack of cohesion and the tendency to switch off late in the games have cost the team points and clean sheets. Even though Courtois has been at his best this season, there is only so much he can do to stop the ball from finding the back of the net.
