Real Madrid can build a better trio around Kylian Mbappe than what PSG attempted

For Real Madrid, these are the formation years of another era-defining team. They’re undergoing a rebuild, of sorts, by slowly phasing out the old guard while keeping the ones that still bring value to the team. It’ll still take some time before it really starts showing, since the likes of players like Marcelo, Gareth Bale, will have left the club by then, among others.

Luka Modric, who shows no signs of slowing down and is going to get another contract extension, is someone that probably won’t have a prominent role when he’s 38 years old and some other players will also probably start getting phased out of the squad (depending on how much they decline), while the new guns take over.

Real Madrid fans are confident that Kylian Mbappe, the face of this upcoming project, will join in the summer of 2022. He will build a partnership with fellow countryman Karim Benzema, and Brazilian prodigy Vinicius Junior. This is going to be really, really good to see when it happens.

What’s even better is that this trio has the potential to become the best trio in the world in the next two years. Hell, I’d dish out a controversial take here by saying that this trio can become better than what PSG attempted with Kylian Mbappe this season and the seasons before.

Real Madrid’s projected trio of Mbappe, Benzema and Vini Jr. will wreak havoc

There are two things to take note of here. One is that this doesn’t necessarily mean that these three players are better individually than all of PSG’s attackers. I mean, they have Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr, so I can’t really say that PSG don’t have individual quality. But, from what we’ve seen so far at PSG and at so many other clubs in the past that have tried this kind of formula, it doesn’t always work.

Bringing in three superstars doesn’t always mean those superstars will be allowed to be the best version of themselves in that line-up. It doesn’t always mean that they’d play as well together as they do individually. You need chemistry, players that fit the criteria around your main player and a lot of hard work and selflessness to make it work.

I honestly think Real Madrid have what it takes to build an incredible partnership in the attack with the players that they currently have, and Mbappe. Vinicius Jr on the left, Karim Benzema as the centre-forward and Kylian Mbappe on the right-wing should be the way to go, at least to start things off. It depends on whether Vinicius is able to prove that he’d be a good enough right-winger or not.

Besides, let’s look at the sample size: Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema have played together for France, and it seems like each time they step onto the field together, they just keep improving as teammates. It’s astonishing to see the partnership they’ve built in less than 15 games together, and it’s scary, in a good way, to think of what they can accomplish if and when they play with each other regularly as club teammates.

On the other end of the pitch, Vini Jr and Benzema have quite an amazing partnership as well. They’ve been carrying Real Madrid to victories this season. Vinicius’ massive improvement on last season meant that Benzema is able to rely on him more, which has shown that they just work seamlessly together. The two superstars know each other’s games properly, and there is almost no defense that will be able to stop them if and when Mbappe joins.

We’ve never seen Mbappe and Vinicius play together, but I really don’t think that will be a problem. Both are selfless players that will be able to adjust and get better together as games go on. It’s going to be one hell of a ride, and I cannot wait to see it happen.
