Real Madrid have usually been pretty vocal about their pursuit of PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe. Even though they’ve been quiet as of late, I think that every football fan that follows the sport somewhat closely knows about the club and Florentino Perez’s obsession with Mbappe. The billionaire wants Mbappe to be the face of his new project and he will stop at nothing to make sure that it happens.

He’s been in the pursuit for about four years now, but back then, Zinedine Zidane didn’t guarantee Mbappe a starting spot since he had his incredible trio of Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo still performing at the top level.

The Frenchman joined PSG, and four years later, he is closer than ever to joining his dream club, Real Madrid.

Well, according to one report from Cardena SER via AS, Joan Laporta will try to not let that happen.

In the report, it says that Joan Laporta has confessed to his closest friends that he will try to sign Kylian Mbappe this summer. He’s told his friends that he will try to “take Mbappe from Real Madrid, amidst the eventual return of Iniesta and Messi”, which has given him an idea to go for the near-impossible task of convincing Mbappe to join the arch-rivals of his dream club.

Mbappe is still very much Real Madrid-bound, even if Barcelona give it a shot

I think it is fair to say that maybe Joan Laporta is being a little too optimistic about signing Kylian Mbappe. There have been reports about other clubs simply giving up on the idea of signing the Frenchman this year because of how hell-bent Perez has been regarding the signing of the Frenchman. The top clubs that can afford him know that Real Madrid want Mbappe and Mbappe clearly wants Real Madrid back, so there is no point in even trying.

Nevertheless, to go for Mbappe would mean trying to lure him in by offering a better contract offer than Real Madrid. I don’t see any other possible way, and even then, Mbappe has made it clear before that it is not about the money. On the other hand, I don’t know if Barcelona will be able to afford a better contract than Real at the current stage of their financial situation.

If you stop looking at money for a second, even then, there are many factors which Barcelona simply cannot give to Mbappe. They can’t give him a better project than Real Madrid, considering how well structured Los Blancos have been for the past few years, and how big of a mess has been created at the Camp Nou. They can’t promise him a lot of big signings so that the squad gets more competitive, whereas Real Madrid will certainly be able to do that. The stadium also plays a factor, since the concept of it is just so pleasing to look at. Can’t imagine how it’d be like to play in it.

Besides, there is one thing you just can’t help but wonder about: Would Mbappe even want to play for Barcelona over Real Madrid? Especially considering how last summer went down for him? Would he simply give up on his lifelong dream? I really don’t see it happening, especially not when considering how good of a relationship Joan Laporta has formed with Florentino Perez. He wouldn’t want to ruin that.
