Real Madrid need to sign a right-back next summer. There have been so many rumors about Real wanting to sign a bunch of young stars next year, including the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Erling Haaland, and I really hope they are still looking for a right-back that will be able to support Dani Carvajal and help the team with some much-needed depth in that position.

Now, here’s some good news: According to rumors, Real are considering getting a right-back next season. In fact, the report claims that Real Madrid are actually leading the race for the player’s signing.

Real Madrid overtake Sporting as favorites to sign Pedro Porro from Manchester City, per source

According to O Jogo, Real Madrid stand firm as favorites now to sign the sought-after Portuguese right-back Pedro Porro from parent club Manchester City. Porro is currently playing in Portugal with Sporting CP on loan. According to the report, the Portuguese club had plans to sign the player permanently once his loan spell is over. They only need to pay 8.5 million Euros for that signing.

The problem is, they’re not doing very well financially. According to the report, they want to sign the player, but even if they qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League, they will still have other payments to make first before they can even think about signing someone.  If they don’t sign the player, Pedro Porro goes straight back to Manchester City. Real Madrid will be able to negotiate with Manchester City if that happens, and it’s a race that they’re leading, per source.

Real Madrid, along with some other clubs, have gained interest in the player this season after his solid, consistent performances for the club.

If we think about it, Manchester City don’t really need him at the moment. They have two world class right-backs in Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo. Even though Cancelo plays at left-back, he’s just as good, if not better, on the other side, and will be able to cover well for Walker if the latter gets injured. That would mean Pedro Porro would be third in the pecking order, which is not a great thing for a young player.

At Real Madrid, Pedro will play second fiddle to Dani Carvajal. Now, I think Carvajal is one of the best right-backs in the world, but he is just too injury-prone for the team to rely on him consistently. His back-up option, Lucas Vazquez, was good last season, but has been average as right-back this season. He’s not a natural right-back, so I don’t expect a lot from him in that position either way.

Getting Pedro Porro would solve two things. It’ll solve Real’s depth problem at right-back, and would push Carvajal to be an even better version of himself, and it would sort Los Blancos out for the foreseeable future. Porro is very young, so he will be able to start for Real Madrid once Carvajal starts to decline.

This is a transfer that Real Madrid need to make, because Porro is just too good to not go for, and Carvajal is too injury-prone to not have a natural back-up for.
