LW Vinicius Junior

Eden Hazard’s bout with gastroenteritis meant that Vinicius Junior could not get rest against Sheriff. In this vital match vs. Sevilla, you had better believe the most in-form player in La Liga will get the start at the Bernabeu.

Vinicius was quiet against Sheriff, but he was still solid. He just impacted the game in a different way, using his clever positioning and quick passing to get other players involved. Vini is more than just someone who can blow by people one-on-one. He is a well-rounded, elite footballer with an exceptional understanding of the tactics of the game and of his teammates’ strengths and tendencies. All of that will be important against a Lopetegui-coached side that does not make life easy for any attack.

CF Karim Benzema

Karim Benzema grabbed his goal on Wednesday with a well-taken finish into the bottom left corner of the net. The Frenchman is so good at those swerving finishes that leave keepers with no chance, and he will need to be clinical with space at a premium and with a legitimately world-class goalkeeper in Sevilla’s net. Bono is the second-best keeper in La Liga right now after Courtois. Benzema often comes up big against the Andalusian powerhouse, and he may just have another decisive goal in him on Matchday 15.

RW Marco Asensio

Rodrygo Goes got the start in the Champions League, so, presumably, it is Marco Asensio’s turn to be in the XI in La Liga this weekend. Asensio is coming off back-to-back strong starts for maybe the first time since his return from injury. He has gained Carlo Ancelotti’s trust on the right wing, finding a more central role that suits him. However, despite scoring against Granada and creating several chances against Rayo Vallecano, the Andalusian attacker still needs to convince Madridistas that he has the consistency to both start more often – and even to remain at the club beyond 2021-2022.
