2. Real Madrid need to take care of their wide defending

Sevilla has scored at least two goals in their last three games and every single one of their goals was the result of accurate crosses or cutbacks. Sevilla’s attacking plan this season has been simple yet effective. Go through any of their match highlights and one would notice a collection of great balls into the box, both from open play and set pieces. Their heading has been top class and from the point-blank range too, they have maintained a decent conversion rate.

Real Madrid, therefore, should make sure that they do their best to stop these incoming balls into the box. Real’s fullbacks, Dani Carvajal and Ferland Mendy both have looked at full throttle lately. Carvajal has recovered well and is looking like he is getting back to his world-class best. Mendy, on the other hand, is the best defensive fullback in my opinion. Real Madrid has the right ammunition for the job all they need to do is utilize it well.

Stopping the crosses should be the priority. The second would be to take care of business aerially. David Alaba, who would be expected to take his place at center-back will need help from his partner in crime Eder Militao. Militao’s is very reliable in the air, and Madridistas would hope for a strong performance from the Brazilian.

The final thing to take care of is to deny space to Sevilla’s players who are dangerous from long range. Give them a little space and they would ask Courtois some questions with venomous long shots. If Real Madrid keeps a check of these three things in defense, they should be successful at keeping Sevilla’s attackers at bay.
