Real Madrid is ready to let Eden Hazard walk

As most Madridistas fans have expected, Real Madrid does not seem to have plans for Eden Hazard in the 2022-2023 season. Their focus is on Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland, which means Hazard become superfluous as a player whose ideal schematic fit is not one that Los Blancos can fit into their attacking setup.

Hazard had a positive performance and finally played a full 90, even if it was in a 0-0 draw with Cadiz. If Hazard can have another display or two like that (or ideally better), it becomes more feasible for Real to move the high-priced Hazard in the summer 2022 transfer window.

According to a report from COPE, Real Madrid is indeed open to selling the Belgian in the next summer window. And reportedly, Newcastle and Lille could be interested in the 30-year-old.

Newcastle have the deep pockets and may have ambitions of bringing the best Premier League player of the past decade in the fold. Lille’s interest seems surprising but makes sense when you break down the nostalgia factor and the possibility of either a paycut or a wage-sharing structure between the defending Ligue 1 champs and the 2019-2020 LaLiga champs.

Real shopping Hazard should come as no surprise to any Madridista, even those who value the 100 million euro signing from 2019 and would still like him to succeed in Spain. A move may be best for all parties, especially if Mbappe and Haaland are to join in 2022. Hazard won’t have much transfer value, but getting his wages off the book will be important to Real strategically.
