Real Madrid helping Dortmund to convince Erling Haaland to stay

For those of you who have been keeping up with our transfer coverage, you will not be surprised to see that Real Madrid want Erling Haaland to stay with Borussia Dortmund. It is rare to see a team want a superstar player to not be on the market when they are apparently that player’s preferred landing spot, but Karim Benzema, as we saw with his 10-minute brace against Athletic Bilbao, is still going strong as LaLiga’s top scorer.

Therefore, Haaland waiting another year and then joining Real to replace Benzema would make more sense. And we know Dortmund need Haaland. This team is in the Europa League and well and truly out of the Bundesliga title race. They were even embarrassed against Hertha Berlin in their most recent match.

Would Haaland want to wait? Analysts in Germany keep noting that the usually-upbeat Haaland seems frustrated. He is passionate and wants to win above all else, including at Dortmund. He loves the club, his teammates, and the fans. But they cannot meet his ambitions, whereas a club like Manchester City, for example, can.

City can offer Haaland a great financial and sporting package. Even if we saw he prefers Real, which is no guarantee, does he prefer them enough to wait another season in Dortmund as opposed to immediately moving to Pep Guardiola’s side?

We shall see.

MadridistaReal are the latest to report that Real Madrid and Dortmund are working to try and convince Haaland to wait until 2023 for his dream move to Madrid. That makes sense, given what Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke recently said.

Madridistas should temper their expectations regarding the chances of this happening, but it could be a brilliant plan from Madrid.
