Gareth Bale’s time at Real Madrid is coming to an end. It’s almost evident that Bale and the club will part ways, cometh July.

The Welshman was unveiled as a Real Madrid player in September 2013, consequently becoming the most expensive player in football history. The price tag was merited, considering his efficacious Spurs days.

He certainly lived up to expectations in his first three seasons with the club, scoring 47 goals in LaLiga during the tenure. It all went downhill from there, on account of countless injuries. Bale has missed over 123 games across all competitions at Real Madrid, owing solely to injuries.

Madridistas have different views on Gareth, as a player and professional. Some question his abilities, while some question his motivation. I, personally, agree with the latter.

There will also be some fans clinging to the little hope there is. They want to get a glimpse of the players he was. Yet, that’s a distant possibility. At least at Real Madrid.

His departure at the end of the season is imminent. Despite being a free agent, we won’t see a lot of clubs lining up for his signature. His bulky wages and age would pose a problem for most clubs.

Let’s look at three clubs that might go for Gareth Bale.

Newcastle United

Newcastle is an obvious possibility. Their $400 million takeover by Saudi-led consortium opened up pathways for big-name transfers. Their next window will be colossal.

The Magpies are reportedly keen on swooping in Gareth Bale next summer, with his contract winding out in July.

At this age, in an emerging team, a move back to the Premier League would be a significant challenge. Regardless, Gareth did surprisingly well at Spurs last season. He accounted for 11 goals and two assists in just 20 appearances. These numbers are remarkable.

His injury record will be on the lookout before Newcastle makes a move. He can be an incalculable asset with the quality he still possesses. At the same time, his injuries can make him a liability.

It will take quite some time before the Magpies have an actual ‘depth’ in their squad and hence, injuries will be a major concern.

Nonetheless, this move will go down the drain if Newcastle gets relegated. And the way things are going for them this season, Championship football seems likely. They currently stand 19th in the Premier League table, winning just 11 points in 19 games.

His relationship with Spurs and its fans might be another hindrance when it comes to a move back to England.

To conclude, this movie is quite an ambitious one- For Newcastle and Gareth. It’s risky, and contingent upon various other factors. But you can’t rule anything out in football.
