MARCELO WILL RETIRE AT MADRID FOLLOWING THE 2021/22 SEASON

Marcelo has been a loyal servant of the club and throughout this season, he has not made a noise about his selection in the team despite Miguel Gutierrez being above him in the manager’s pecking order. He is a fan favourite and although he may have been well past his best since the last three or four years, it is fact that his imminent exit will be met with a lot of melancholy and respect.

The Brazilian has been tipped to retire at the club itself in recent weeks, contrary to reports earlier which suggested that he will return to South America and ply his trade over there for a few years. However, as a bold prediction for 2022, Marcelo will retire at Madrid itself, a dream which the likes of Raul, Iker Casillas, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Sergio Ramos have been eluded from in recent years.

Should he choose to actually hang up his boots this summer, the club will undoubtedly have a role ready for him to pursue probably behind the scenes as a director or club ambassador, or something close to the first team or Castilla as one of the coaches or in a similar profile. Marcelo surely deserves to bid farewell to the game at the highest level and doing it with Real Madrid cannot be bettered by doing so at another club in all honesty.
