Sporting Club vs Manchester City

The only time I remember these two clubs facing each other was in 2012 in the Europa League and Sporting advanced on away goals. But now things are different and so are the rules. The away goal rule will no longer be applicable in the knockout stages of the competition starting this year.

Sporting is also a surprise package of their own this season having finished above Borussia Dortmund to advance into the Round of 16. They aren’t a side to be discounted for. I actually see this one going very close and Manchester City just edging it over two legs. In the end, Manchester City will have won the tie but Sporting would have won our hearts for their mighty effort.

I also think two key Sporting players, Pedro Goncalves and Pedro Porro will be standouts for their side and will audition for their future in a big club. For me, this is going to be a lot closer than what Cityzens would have hoped for. I predict a 4-2 aggregate for the Skyblues.

Inter vs Liverpool

Inter Milan is the last Italian hope in the Champions League and they have an even mightier task in front of them. The red-hot and high-flying Liverpool led by probably the best attacker this season in Europe, Mohamed Salah. Moreover, Liverpool is of course the third team to have won every group stage game. And, dare I say it they look like the most convincing team in the Champions League thus far coming out of a difficult group with Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, and Porto in it.

It would be interesting to see how they’d do while facing an Inter side that is only starting to find their footing this season. Yes, they went down to Real Madrid quite easily in the Bernabeu but we also need to account for two absolutely magical left foot strikes that helped Madrid on their way. Otherwise, Inter has looked pretty composed in the season lately.

I can see things getting tight at the San Siro, but Liverpool will be working their Anfield magic to perfection and coming out with an aggregate of 3-1 over the 180 minutes against Inter Milan.
