2. Jules Kounde

Yes, I know I said that signing a backup should be Real Madrid’s priority right now. But, the reason I put Jules Kounde in the second position is that his signing would have a deeper figurative meaning. Like Nacho Fernandez, Jules Kounde is a utility defender who can play in different positions in the defense. Nacho’s days in Real Madrid are coming to a close. He fits into the age bracket of 30+ players now.

To find a replacement for such a crucial part of the squad is nearly an impossible task. His whole life he has been a one-club man. Although he never has been an undisputed starter, he never shied away from dropping reliable shifts whenever he was called upon by his managers. I have a tremendous amount of respect for players like Nacho who stay out of the limelight yet quietly leave their mark on their club’s glorious history. The Spaniard is a legend in my eyes and nothing else would ever suffice.

Hence, if Real Madrid is getting a player who is promising enough to bag our hopes on to do even a little similar job to what Nacho has been doing so far for Real Madrid, I think we should move for him. Anyone who knows ball knows what an amazing talent Jules Kounde is! At 23 years of age, he is yet to hit his prime. But, he is already pulling off astute shifts for Sevilla.

Kounde has been heavily linked to the Champions League winners Chelsea, and it seems like he is their preferred option to fill up the void created by Antonio Rudiger’s rumored move to Real Madrid.

On one hand, Real Madrid and Sevilla have a brilliant relationship with the former being one of Sevilla’s most important buyers. Sevilla also needs to keep selling its stars to bigger clubs that has been an important part of how the club functions. On the other, the lure of a big Premier League club also has its own charm. But, I don’t really think Real Madrid should give up on Kounde so easily. He could be their next utility man to rely upon.
