NEYMAR

While Paris Saint-Germain may have been reluctant in parting ways with Kylian Mbappe in 2019, they would have happily let go of Neymar back then to Real Madrid. As a matter of fact, the Whites were linked with him for several months in the past but a move never materialized as they never prioritized on him and ultimately opted to sign Eden Hazard from Chelsea.

The Brazilian was desperate to move back to Spain and was even willing to go against his Barcelona association, and there was a point when PSG were ready to hear offers. In hindsight, it now looks like Real Madrid may have dodged a bullet by passing on his services, but things for Neymar and for Real Madrid may have been incredibly different if he had chosen to sign.

His professionalism may have been a notch better because Real Madrid’s dressing room is surely a lot more committed and has a winning mentality as compared to that of PSG, not to mention the difference in Madrid and Paris as two distinct cities, the latter of which is an entertainment hub not just in Europe but for everyone around the world too.

Neymar may have even been the star of the show as he has always wanted to, and finally not played in the shadow of Lionel Messi at Barcelona or that of Kylian Mbappe at PSG. His and Real Madrid’s association will always be one of “what if” and it is very unfortunate that it never materialized because the player has always been someone the Madridistas have admired.
