After months of reprieve, Real Madrid fans are back to scrolling on their phones and seeing more constant, conflicting updates regarding Kylian Mbappe‘s future.

Though the PSG forward can officially sign a pre-agreement to join Madrid in the summer 2022 transfer window, the star man is fully expected to avoid signing anything until at least the end of the Champions League tie against Real, out of respect for his current club.

Mbappe’s move to Madrid has seemed inevitable since the summer 2021 window, when a deal just fell short as PSG did not respond to Real’s 200 million euro offer at the deadline. And after Mbappe made his intentions clear in an interview with RMC Sport, there seemed to be no turning back.

However, the latest development has caused Madridistas to be nervous, and that is a report from Telefoot’s Julien Maynard stating that PSG and Mbappe have been in talks regarding a short-term contract extension. Such an idea was floated around last year, in which Mbappe would sign an extension to stay with the Qatar-owned club through the 2022 World Cup and then move on to Real for a fixed fee.

PSG is reportedly offering Kylian Mbappe 80 million euros over two seasons

Most people are not worried about this report, because “talks” could very well just be a pressure tactic from PSG or if talks have indeed taken place, then it could just be that PSG sent an offer to Mbappe that he has not even responded positively to. And it does not seem like all of this talk worries Madrid.

So what is the deal with this latest offer from PSG? How much are they offering Mbappe now in order to sway him to stay? We all know the Parisians have money on their side, and they are indeed offering Mbappe money even beyond what Real Madrid would be able to in salary.

According to a report from Tomas Gonzalez-Martin of ABC Deportes, PSG’s latest offer to Kylian Mbappe is a two-year deal worth 40 million euros per year in salary. Gonzalez-Martin notes that this offer now exceeds the salaries of Neymar and Lionel Messi, who both earn 36 million euros each. Given Mbappe has clearly been better than both so far this season, he does indeed deserve to make more than both of them on the PSG payroll.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid, as Gonzalez-Martin notes earlier in the article, is offering 21 million euros per year over six years, along with a 40 million euro bonus. That’s a ton of money over a long period of time, and it does not even account Mbappe’s greater commercial potential and endorsement earnings with Los Blancos.

But in terms of money on the table, 80 million euros over two seasons is a LOT.

We know, though, that Mbappe is about more than money. It is not impossible for him to take a deal to stay in his home city and make more money for his family, but he could make just as much, including endorsements, in Madrid.

And you can’t put a price on peace of mind. Madrid has always been his dream, and now that he is just months away from achieving it, it’s hard to see him giving in to PSG’s final pressure tactics.
