Is Real Madrid planning a big transfer market move soon?
Real Madrid are usually very silent customers in the January transfer window, and most of the rumours that are related to the club would be those indicating the club’s summer plans. A lot of names have been linked to the club in recent times, and there has been a lot of buzz about how Real Madrid are planning to make this summer a Galactic transfer window.
And there has been one such update from the AS journalist Joaquin Maroto, that has created a lot of speculations. He has tweeted that “Real Madrid are brewing a transfer market coup”, and also mentioned that he will come up with more details in the coming weeks.
At the moment, there is no solid evidence and buzz to take this tweet seriously, but it has definitely come at an interesting time. It has come at a time when there are just 9 days left in the transfer market.
There is a possibility of the rumour being related to a summer move, but this update definitely opens the door to imagining a situation where Real Madrid would take the transfer market by surprise.
What could be Real Madrid’s big transfer move?
It is an open secret that Real Madrid’s primary transfer targets for this summer are Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe. The Frenchman would be a free agent this summer and he has already announced that he won’t leave PSG in January, so there’s nothing to speculate about Mbappe.
Looking at Joaquin Maroto’s recent articles for the AS, we can’t guess something solid. He has published one article about how Pep Guardiola could prevent Haaland from going to Madrid, but this might not be about Haaland. The Norwegian’s agent Mino Raiola is currently admitted to a hospital due to his own health issues, and no progress can be made in Haaland’s case without his agent being involved.
Some doubts were raised if this is related to Paul Pogba, as the Manchester United midfielder would be a free agent this summer, but Maroto himself confirmed that it is not related to the French international.
Maybe this might be about a midfielder like Ryan Gravenberch, Jude Bellingham, or Aurelien Tchouameni, as MARCA have recently reported that three of these players, along with Endrick, Wesley Fofana, and Florian Wirtz are being scouted by the club. If this tweet is about them, it will indeed be a coup by Real Madrid, as each and every player mentioned above are being targeted by a lot of top European clubs. Any move from Real Madrid for them would shake the transfer market.
On a fun note, the craziest speculation would be to think of a possible move for Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele in the closing days of the transfer market, with the Frenchman becoming a rebel at the Catalan club. But the possibility of that being true is almost equal to the possibility of Barcelona winning the LaLiga this season.
Until next week, when Maroto will come up with more details, we just have to keep guessing.
