Real Madrid have started to plan for their summer transfer window, which is expected to be a big one. There are no prizes for guessing Real’s attacking targets, as Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland have been the club’s primary targets for a while. They might step up their approach for Mbappe after the round of 16 Champions League tie against Paris-Saint Germain, and might talk with Haaland’s entourage later this season.

The club has also focused on improving their midfield and defence, and it already seems like Los Blancos have identified their top priority midfield target. Recently there was a report from MARCA that the club has identified four young midfielders as their possible transfer targets.

But the latest report from MARCA seems to confirm that Real Madrid have made Aurelien Tchouameni their no.1 midfield target. They have stepped up their pursuit of Tchouameni.

It is stated in the report that Real Madrid’s chief scout, Juni Calafat, has traveled to Monaco to talk with Tchouameni’s entourage and talk about a possible summer deal. The club sees the Frenchman as a long-term replacement for the team’s current defensive midfielder, Casemiro.

Aurelien Tchouameni has been on Real Madrid’s radar for a while

Tchouameni isn’t a new target for the club. The 22-year-old has been on Real Madrid’s radar for a while, and there were reports in October 2021, which suggested that the club had developed a strong interest in him, and he could be signed for a fee of around 60 million euros. There was a time when his signing looked difficult because of heavy interest from Chelsea, but the recent developments suggest that the club have made him their target, and will now go all out for him in the summer.

The Monaco midfielder is an elite ball-winner and tends to break down dangerous attacks with his excellent tackling skills. According to Squawka, Tchouameni has completed 187 tackles and 117 interceptions since the beginning of the 2020/21 season, which is more than any other midfielder in Europe. This stat is enough to talk about his ball-winning skills and prove that a player like him can be a fantastic successor to Casemiro. He’s very comfortable with the ball at his feet and can produce line-breaking passes regularly, which makes him a well-rounded midfielder.

Maybe the price tag is a bit too much when compared to Camavinga’s signing, with the teenager being a more hyped midfielder in Ligue 1. But Monaco is a business-minded club and given the competition for Tchouameni from the Premier League, they might feel like they have every right to milk the most out of his sale. And when Real Madrid decide to go for a player, they don’t care much about the price tag.
