Everyone knows that Real Madrid is planning to have a huge transfer window this summer. It is an open secret that Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland are the club’s main transfer targets for the next transfer window. And there has been an addition to the list of transfer targets, as the club has identified Aurelien Tchouameni as the top priority midfield target.

But the defence has been the main concern this season, and it is the department that needed a new boost. With Dani Carvajal’s injury troubles and a lack of depth in the centre-back contingent, a new signing has become a must.

Earlier this week, there was speculation that Real Madrid might address the right-back situation this summer, but there was no solid report and no targets were reported.

We do have an update now, from one of the most reliable Madrid based journalists, Arancha Rodriguez. The Spanish journalist had confirmed in a Q&A session with the Twitter account Madrid Xtra that the club is looking to make not just one defensive upgrade, but two. According to her, the club has been looking in the transfer market for a centre-back and a right-back.

No names have been reported by her, but it is an update from a highly reliable journalist, which is a piece of positive news for all Madridistas.

Who might be the possible targets for Real Madrid?

It is interesting to see who will be the club’s primary defensive targets because there has been no solid report that has linked a defender to the club.

The only defender who was regularly linked to Real Madrid during the season is Antonio Rudiger, as the German defender is going to become a free agent this summer. But it seems like Real Madrid have cooled off their interest in the Chelsea man, due to his exorbitant financial demands.

There was a lot of talk surrounding Jules Kounde and Real Madrid last summer, but the Sevilla defender looked to be on his way to Chelsea. Though a deal couldn’t be agreed between both the clubs for Kounde, he still looks to be destined for a move to London. Maybe Real Madrid backed off from going for the Frenchman due to his high price tag of 85 million euros, but there is still a possibility of the club going for him next summer and the club’s decision to not sign Rudiger might lead to an even better signing. Catalan source SPORT has linked Real Madrid to Arsenal’s William Saliba, but rumours from an unreliable news outlet like Sport should be taken with a pinch of salt.

At the moment there don’t seem to be any more solid rumours that link a centre-back to the club. Even in the case of signing a right-back, apart from Pedro Porro and Noussair Mazraoui, there haven’t been any more potential transfer targets. Maybe, we will get to see more names being linked to us as the season progresses. But an assurance from a journalist who’s very close to the insiders at the club is definitely encouraging news for us.
