Where does Real Madrid’s midfield rank among the best in the world in 2022?
3. Manchester City
The second English club on this list is the Light Blues of Manchester. Coming up as a side balanced between wise experience and younger energy, Manchester City in my opinion has the most balanced midfield in the Premier League and certainly is one of the best contingents in Europe. The star cast of course is led by one of the finest midfielders to have ever graced the game, Kevin de Bruyne.
Much like Chelsea, Manchester City, too, boasts an extensive squad list with a variety of options. But unlike the London Blues, the Sky Blues have seemed to have zeroed in on the conventional 4-3-3 shape bringing their central midfielders into action as much as possible. That is actually a good move by Pep Guardiola because this shape has been favoring the likes of de Bryune, Rodri, and Ilkay Gundogan.
Guardiola has also been able to employ his attacking midfielders in the same shape which highlights the versatility of players like Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden. Creative and at the same time having the capacity to score goals like a perfect forward. The defensive ends are also well covered by players like Rodri and Fernandinho.
The midfield contingent accounts for more goals than the forwards of Manchester City. That should serve as an indication of how much the Sky Blues relies on their midfield. They stand out in creativity and ball carrying through players like de Bruyne and immaculate passing to dictate play through the likes of Rodri, Fernandinho, and Foden. And, they also find their finishes through their advanced midfield players. One of the best midfield in Europe for sure!
