Real Madrid have made some really good and important signings in the past that are only now paying dividends. Some signings simply didn’t work, or haven’t really been fruitful yet. The player I’m about to talk about is in the former category.

Eder Militao has simply had an amazing season so far. Bar a couple of below-average performances, he’s just been insanely good every single time he’s stepped on the pitch. The maturity level in his game is way beyond his age, and he’s one of the two transfers from 2019 that actually worked out very well for the club, the second one being Ferland Mendy.

Real Madrid’s Eder Militao is valued at 60 million euros, per Transfermarkt

According to Transfermarkt, Eder Militao’s current market value is at 60 million euros, and the transfer fee that Real Madrid paid for his services was around 50 million. So, we can definitely see that the value that he brings to the team is not just on the pitch. The man’s one of the best centre-backs in the world, and I’m pretty sure he’s now one of the most valuable ones as well.

Thing is, though, that this is not even Militao’s peak. We’re so used to seeing him perform at such a high level week in week out that we don’t really realise he’s only 24 years old. Militao joined Real Madrid when he was 21, and is the perfect example of what happens when you work hard behind the scenes and have the talent to succeed at a club like Real Madrid. The players who don’t do that end up falling behind, and that is the case for a number of players on this roster.

Because we all know that in his first two seasons at the club, Militao didn’t get that many opportunities. He was the third choice, behind two of the most accomplished centre-backs of this generation in Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos.

When his time finally arrived, though, at the crucial stages of last season, he showed the world that he can handle the responsibility of leading the entire defense in crucial games. That’s when Real Madrid realised that if Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane end up leaving the club, their defense wouldn’t be shattered. That’s when they realised that if they give Militao a couple of years, it’ll pay off. And well, it’s not even been a whole year and he’s finally showing signs of eventually becoming one of the best centre-backs of his generation.

Coupling him with David Alaba was a smarter move than what Real Madrid’s higher-ups get credit for. They are a perfect duo, and one hides the other’s weaknesses. Fair to say, I love their partnership and hopefully, it just continues to get better.

Once Militao finally reaches his peak, I think that his value will blow this current one out of the water, and an argument can be made that even right now, Militao’s value is much, much more than 60 million. And even if Real Madrid get an offer that matches his value, the Brazilian’s still not going anywhere. That’s how important he is.
