2. Mariano Diaz

Mariano Diaz’s tale at the White House is somewhat similar to Luka Jovic’s. Expect he has had two highly unsuccessful spells at Real Madrid.

He left Real Madrid for Lyon in 2017 and created an impact for the French club scoring 21 goals in 45 games which prompted Real Madrid to sign him back in a £23million deal. They even gave him Cristiano Ronaldo’s old No. 7 kit.

However, the fidgety striker has failed to establish himself at the club despite his best efforts. He has played a meager 34 matches in four seasons so far. The goal against Barcelona in the 2019-20 season, which helped seal the LaLiga crown, is the only memory to cling upon from an otherwise flop move.

The club bosses have been keen on selling or loaning him out to another club. However, Mariano has been adamant to stay and see his contract through. Real Madrid had the chance to let him leave for Sevilla in 2018. However, they swooped in and exercised the first right to refusal. Real Madrid must be regretting the move and would surely jump the gun to get rid of the player as and when any opportunity arrives. It remains to be seen, however, if such an opportunity will arise.
