Yes, it is that time of the year. You know what I mean. That time when the sun doesn’t shine bright enough because it is covered by the cloud. That time when the roses don’t blush and the nightingale doesn’t sing.

That time of the year when Real Madrid doesn’t play, also known as the killer of joy, the spit of satan, and, sometimes, ‘international break’.

It’s the time of the year when dedicated Real Madrid writers like us have no content to write on and so we have to resort to fantastical things such as this article. Albeit, I do admit that it is the plague that flowers the kaleidoscope–that we are only at our best when facing the absolute worst.

With that in mind, let’s have a dive into the world where football and Marvel comics coalesce by looking at Real Madrid players and their Marvel equivalent…

#1 Luka Modric – Dr. Strange

He is the main inspiration behind this piece and the selling point for the editor to give me the green light to go ahead with this somewhat nonsensical (but creative) piece.

Simply put, is there even an explanation required as to why Luka Modric is the Sorcerer Supreme of Real Madrid? There is not, but for the uninitiated: Dr. Strange is the most powerful wizard in Marvel comics, Luka Modric is the most powerful wizard in the world of football.

Dr. Strange doesn’t age because of the Time Stone, Luka Modric doesn’t age because of superior genetics. Dr. Strange often single-handedly does everything for this team, Luka Modric also wins Real Madrid matches by himself.

I could go on and on but you get the point, don’t you? Real Madrid might as well get Modric a cape resembling the Cloak of Levitation.

#2 Vinicius Jr – Thor

At first, it might be a bit difficult to see the similarities but once you look deep into the crevices, a lot of things are unearthed. Thor began his journey in the MCU as a character with potential but somehow just never clicked with the audience.

And then Thor: Ragnarok happened and changed Thor’s position in the MCU forever. The exact same thing happened with Vini as fans always knew he had talent but it just never clicked for him until this season.

And now, like Thor, Vini is the God who strikes his thunder–pun intended–into the opposition every time he runs at them. A true God among mere mortals in LaLiga.

#3 Thibaut Courtois – Captain Marvel

I know, I know. Some of you might be screaming at the screen right now. I mean Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, what the hell? But think about it, there might not be a better alternative.

Captain Marvel is disliked, hence often underrated, by the fans but she is among the most powerful beings in Marvel comics and could single-handedly save her team from almost any dire situation.

Courtois is also disliked–frankly, if he didn’t play for Real Madrid, I might not have liked him either–but history is the witness of the number of times he has saved Madrid.

#4 Toni Kroos- Emma Frost

I couldn’t really think of anyone better than Emma Frost for Toni Kroos. Both of them have genius-level intellect, can read the minds of the people/teammates around them, organize their respective teams brutally efficiently, and are highly durable in the battlefield/pitch.

Kroos is the type of player who does things without sprinting, making everything look so smooth and easy. Emma, too, likes to do things in a calm manner. Bonus point: both look really elegant–like Gods/Goddesses.

#5 Karim Benzema – Spider-Man

The only reason to choose Spider-Man for Benzema is the line, ‘with great power comes great responsibility’ — and Benzema is the epitome of that. When Ronaldo was there–let’s liken the Portuguese to Iron Man here–Benzema stayed in the shadow and served him as best as he could, just like Peter Parker.

However, when the former Juventus star left the Bernabeu, Benzema rose to the occasion and became the new face of the club, just like how Peter Parker is now the face of MCU. Although one could argue that Spider-Man did make a lot of mess post-Iron Man but we will just let that slide away because of the ultimate message:

Next. 3 Real Madrid players with a limitless ceiling. dark

Karim Benzema is the most important player–spiritually–for Real Madrid, just as Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the current MCU.
