The race to sign Erling Haaland is on with major clubs across Europe chasing the Dortmund star. The heat of the situation only got higher when the player publicly announced that he would decide on his future earlier than he had thought of doing so. On the forefront, the ones in his pursue are Manchester City from the Premier League, Real Madrid, and FC Barcelona – both from La Liga.

Mentioning which leagues these clubs come from becomes essential because if we follow several reports then it is possible that Haaland prefers playing in Spain more than in England. That does not rule out City at all, but, for now, let us focus on the two contenders in LaLiga, eternal rivals Real Madrid and Barcelona in a dogfight to secure Haaland’s signature.

Just three days ago, sports media house BILD reported that Kylian Mbappe has reached an agreement with Real Madrid and will earn 50 million euros gross salaries from Los Blancos. Due to these mega wages of the Frenchman, it would be a bit knotty to accommodate him with Haaland under the official wage cap.

While the money game has left Real in a labyrinthine situation, FC Barcelona have presumably capitalized an advantage in the same spectrum.

Despite them being our rivals, it is worth applauding that ever since Joan Laporta took hold of the steering he has made notable financial improvements by cashing in lucrative sponsorship deals and saving a lot of money through departures.

Per the words of Barcelona’s vice president of finance Eduard Romeu, the club has saved a herculean amount of 159 million euros after players took major wage cuts and several departures. Sit back on your seat because you will be shocked to know that in this amount, Messi’s saving is not included and is thus expected to multiply manifolds.

For the current season, La Liga imposed a salary cap of just 97 million euros on Barcelona which was the sole reason for their constant struggle to register new entries. The club now expects that their salary cap for the upcoming seasons would be fixed at 400 million euros, a staggering 300% surge.

After fastening the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Adama Traore (on loan), and Ferran Torres in a deemed to be successful winter window, the Catalans will be all set to offer Haaland the wages of his demands. Laporta would not let go of a single chance to hijack this transfer.
