How PSG plans on tempting Zinedine Zidane to become their manager
Real Madrid are trying to get Kylian Mbappe from PSG, while PSG are trying to get one of Real’s legends – Zinedine Zidane – as manager next season. There have been reports since early September about PSG wanting the French coach to replace Mauricio Pochettino, but it never really happened.
Zinedine Zidane was either not interested, or was trying to not be too rash in his decision making. Obviously, moving to such a big club after the season’s already started is a big thing, and Zidane is known for making smart decisions with his career, so it makes sense.
There were also reports that even if Zinedine Zidane was to somehow be convinced by PSG, their Champions League tie against Real Madrid simply made it impossible for him to move to Paris this season.
PSG are hell-bent on his signature, though. According to a report from Footmercato, they’ve come up with a plan to get him to sign the contract.
PSG will offer Zinedine Zidane full power in decision making, per source
According to the report, PSG are offering Zinedine Zidane a huge, huge salary, which would be much more than what Real Madrid offered him during his two spells in charge. Apart from that, they’re claiming to give him full power to lead the dressing room, make signings, etc.
Well, look, what I think is this: Yes, they can give him a lot of money, and they can offer him full control, but would they actually give him that much control? I highly doubt it.
The club is very top-heavy, and no offense, but they don’t seem like fun people to work with. There have been so many ego clashes, so much politics and so many difficulties between the board and the manager in the last few years, that it seems unfathomable that Zinedine Zidane would ever coach PSG. There are a lot of reasons for that.
Zidane wants time, patience and control to make things work – as does every manager – but what’s different with him is that he commands it, after winning so many Champions League titles with Real Madrid. The Champions League is one trophy that PSG have failed to win so far, and getting Zidane would be a huge step in the right direction. But, as I said, I just don’t see Zidane accepting the offer.
Think about the players that have been mistreated at the club – one of them being Kylian Mbappe, himself. Think about all the spats Leonardo has had with previous coaches. Also, keep in mind his love for Marseille. There are simply too many red flags for Zidane to even consider coaching PSG, and I think that it’s just not for him.
Yes, he’d be able to handle the huge egos in the dressing room, he’d be able to do a lot of stuff with the club, but, the positives just won’t outweigh the negatives, in my opinion.
