Will Eduardo Camavinga get his chance next week?

We’ll get to Fede Valverde soon, as the Uruguayan started in Toni Kroos’ place and was very helpful to the Real Madrid win. But Valverde’s start and Eduardo Camavinga’s placement on the bench keeps getting me thinking about where the young Frenchman stands in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans and rotations. Even when Carlo went to the bench, he opted for Dani Ceballos, though that may have been because he was confident in the victory.

Camavinga is one of Real’s most important players for the future. He has even more upside than Fede and has actually been more impressive than Fede this season. We are talking about a player who once balled out against PSG’s midfield – effectively the same midfield that wrecked Madrid in the Champions League – as a 16-year-old.

Madridistas want to see more minutes for Camavinga from Ancelotti, especially to ensure that both Kroos and Modric are fresh. They have been going to bat for Valverde, but because Valverde has been getting more starts recently and is older, it feels as if Camavinga will be one cast to the wayside. (Let’s not even touch on Antonio Blanco.)

Next week, Real Madrid will face rivals Rayo Vallecano in LaLiga. Camavinga will almost have to start against PSG with Casemiro suspended, and, thus, it is important for him to get as much time as possible to be sharp for the Champions League, especially considering he is not a natural 6 (if that is indeed the role he must fulfill with Case suspended).
