Real Madrid and PSG do not have the best relationship due to Los Blancos’ pursuit of Kylian Mbappe, who is fully expected to make his way to the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer 2022 transfer window. But he is not the only superstar expected to arrive a the Bernabeu this year. Many believe Erling Haaland will join Real, as the club reportedly has the inside edge to negotiate with the Borussia Dortmund striker.

But Real are by no means guaranteed to sign Haaland. Manchester City are very much alongside Real in the race to sign him, Barcelona will do everything they can to disrupt Florentino Perez’s masterplan for the new Bernabeu, and PSG have their own eyes on the Norwegian.

In fact, Sport reported that PSG asked Erling Haaland and his camp to hold off on making a decision on their futures until Kylian Mbappe announces his future.

That means one thing. PSG is SERIOUS about signing Haaland as Mbappe’s replacement, furthering the rumors that Nasser Al-Khelaifi and crew will do whatever possible to sign the striker if Mbappe were to go.

Real Madrid fans must stay humble when watching the Haaland transfer saga

Not only would Haaland be the only superstar capable of filling Mbappe’s shoes at the Parc des Prances for the next five years (or more), but PSG would also get a chance to hurt the club they now see as rivals, Madrid. It would be doubly sweet for Leonardo to right his wrong of losing Mbappe for free by signing Haaland for just 75 million euros from Dortmund, taking a Galactico away from Perez in the process.

PSG’s request is another reason Madridistas cannot get their hopes up yet for a Haaland signing. It is unlikely Haaland wants to join the project based on the troubles Mbappe has gone through these past few months, but they do have the money to appease Mino Raiola…and the power to make Haaland the face of a very, very well-funded project.

Real Madrid fans cannot get big heads here. Los Blancos are the favorites for Haaland, but this is a wide-open battle. And after all, isn’t it in Haaland’s best interests to wait as long as possible and see how the Mbappe domino falls in this transfer market? Dortmund can pressure him all they want through the media, but even they know that Haaland chooses his own destiny – and that includes when to make that choice.
