Real Madrid Transfers: Ranking the 5 best RW options to sign besides Kylian Mbappe
Real Madrid has serious business to do in the upcoming summer transfer window. There are few problem areas in the squad and the right-back and right-wing are standing out as absolute priority positions.
With several first-team stars like Gareth Bale, Marco Asensio, and Eden Hazard rumored to leave in the summer, Real Madrid needs to secure their starting right-winger. Rodrygo Goes hasn’t been able to perform at the level that a club like Real Madrid would demand and the existing talents also haven’t done any justice to the right flank.
Some business on the right is therefore almost assured in the coming window. Here, I highlight the five best options for Real Madrid. I’d be avoiding Kylian Mbappe on this list for two reasons, firstly, there is not any discussion required on Mbappe he is set to move as a free agent in the upcoming window as a free agent.
And, secondly, Mbappe is well versed in playing multiple roles in the attack, and considering him in a list of pure right-wing targets could be problematic. Although, the possibility of him taking over the right once he arrives is very high. Here are some other top talents to consider and keep that right side of Real Madrid’s attack well covered.
5. Villarreal RW Samuel Chukwueze
I discussed Samuel Chukwueze’s case for Real Madrid earlier as a potential target to keep an eye on in the recently concluded AFCON ’22. And, this time I have another great addition to the things I had earlier discussed. One should remember how the Nigerian speedster humiliated Real Madrid’s captain, Marcelo in their recent face-off in LaLiga that ended with a 0-0 scoreline.
That could’ve been the perfect audition for Chukwueze as Real Madrid value how a player performs against them. Moreover, Real Madrid has always had an eye for procuring talent within LaLiga, the likes of Asier Illaramendi, Marco Asensio, etc. are good examples of the same. Samuel Chukwueze could be an addition to this long list.
A small look at his numbers suggests that Chukwueze isn’t all about fancy dribbling and footwork. He has the skills to finish scoring opportunities as well. He has been at par with his xG in both LaLiga and the Champions League. At 22 years of age, he could be a good investment to support whosoever takes up that starter’s role at Real Madrid.
So far, Unai Emery has also seen him as a wildcard off the bench. I also think Rodrygo would be better off playing on loan at a lesser demanding club and sharpening his skills. As such, a young player who has an idea of the Spanish terrain could be Real Madrid’s ideal backup right-winger to have.
