1. Ajax RW Antony

For number one, this may be a surprise pick for many. But, as my colleague Kevin Parvizi says, he is the only other winger worthy of looking at.  In fact, his masterclass against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League impressed Kevin enough to put him on the right of Real Madrid’s ideal attacking trio five years from now. And, I agree. Ajax’s latest gem, Antony has everyone on their feet with every passing game.

A left-footed player, Antony is perfectly built to own the right side of any attack. That right there is the first reason why I would want Antony in Real Madrid regardless we sign Kylian Mbappe or not. Real Madrid only has Gareth Bale and Marco Asensio as pure left-footed players and both of them haven’t been up to the task lately. Moreover, this could very well be the last season in a white shirt for both of them. As such, having a cultured left foot becomes a necessity.

Antony fits into Real’s requirements like a glove. His passing and pin-point crossing is accompanied by some of the sickest dribbling skills you would see. Yes, he is at the Vinicius Junior level of the game. Very much like Vini this season, Antony is someone who can finish scoring chances. He has scored 11 goals in all competitions for Ajax this season and has been a creative standout in the Champions League with four of his seven assists coming in the marquee competition.

Last but not the least, despite four long years left to run on his contract, Ajax cannot hold on to Antony. Their club model requires them to sell their best prospects. They are after all one of the best youth systems in club football. Antony thus is a realistic target. And, given the logistical and financial problems associated with Erling Haaland’s rumored move, I believe Antony could be the best player to round off Real Madrid’s attack in the coming years.
