Even Real Madrid players don’t understand Carlo Ancelotti’s selections

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti received a great deal of praise after Los Blancos won big game after big game against the likes of Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, and Real Sociedad. He won the Champions League group without much trouble and had Real in first in LaLiga by a pretty safe margin.

But now, Real are in some trouble. Sevilla is still in the title race, as the team has had some very poor results in the league in 2022 against the likes of Getafe, Elche, and Villarreal. The biggest uproar, however, centered around horrible 1-0 losses to Athletic Bilbao in the Copa del Rey and, worse yet, to PSG in the Champions League. The PSG match was one Real could have easily lost by three if it weren’t for the center backs and Thibaut Courtois.

Most of the frustrations have focused on poor tactical ideas and a lack of rotations, with the latter hurting the development of young players and fatiguing veteran squad players like Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, and Karim Benzema.

Real Madrid fans are especially confused as to why excellent young midfielders Fede Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga do not play more.

Real Madrid does not play Fede Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga enough

According to a report from MARCA’s Juan Ignacio Garcia-Ochoa, even Real Madrid players are confused about how little Carlo Ancelotti seems to trust Fede Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga.

There are players in the squad, per the report, who understand that while Kroos, Casemiro, and Modric are the obvious three starters, Fede and Camavinga should both be playing more. They are young midfielders who can offer a lot to the team with their individual qualities, which are unique to the other players, and can also help the veterans get much-needed rest.

These players, according to MARCA, see Real’s midfield as lacking in strength at times and believe these two young stars can provide that strength.

Madridistas surely agree with the sentiments of these players, as reported by the newspaper. Camavinga and Valverde are not just the future of the Real Madrid midfield. They are the present. They are already capable starters, but they are backups in Madrid because of how untouchable the world-class trio is.

The second leg against PSG is coming up, in which Casemiro will be suspended. One of Camavinga or Valverde has to start, and there are fans who would like to see both involved, using a four-man midfield to help progress the ball. We shall see what Carlo plans. He is stubborn, but if players are starting to whisper that this is a change that must be made, perhaps he will be more open to trusting these two young talents.
