We’ve been reading about Bernardo Silva and his reported “dream” of joining Real Madrid, and it’s been rather fun imagining what it would be like to have a player like him around.

I think Bernardo Silva is an excellent player and if Real Madrid are able to get him and find a role for him in the team, he’d be amazing.

But, I don’t think the club is going for him right now, according to a tweet from MadridistaReal very recently.

According to them, Real Madrid aren’t really interested in signing Bernardo Silva, and prioritise the signings of Ryan Gravenberch, Florian Wirtz and Aurelien Tchouameni, as reported by Jose Felix Diaz not long ago.

Real Madrid prioritise young players like Gravenberch and Wirtz over current stars like Bernardo Silva

Bernardo Silva is definitely a great talent and Real Madrid could do with a lot of help in the midfield department, but they currently prefer getting young players that may or may not have different profiles to the Portuguese. Even though Silva helps out quite a bit in defense as well, they’re looking at some players that are more ‘complete’.

Tchouameni is a defensive-minded midfielder, Gravenberch is a very good box-to-box midfielder. Only Florian Wirtz can be claimed to be sort of similar to Bernardo Silva, in the sense that he’s able to provide less on the defensive end but more than makes up for it in the offense and the midfield. But again, the argument of age just kicks it into Wirtz’s favor.

Silva is currently 27 years old, and is probably playing the best football he’s ever played yet. Signing him would definitely be a huge positive and his versatility makes it even better, but Real Madrid are looking for players that are younger, less-than-superstars but have the potential to be the best in their position. Silva doesn’t fit in that category.

Moreover, the Portuguese would demand a starting spot, while the other midfielders, at least for now, wouldn’t have an issue with trying to earn their spot in the line-up.

One thing’s for sure, though: Real Madrid definitely want reinforcements in midfield, and they’d try to sign at least one of these players next season.
