Real Madrid’s midfield has been a topic of discussion for a while now. Whether it’s about the holy trinity of midfield in Luka Modric, Casemiro and Toni Kroos, or about the talent that they have in Eduardo Camavinga and Fede Valverde, or whether it’s about something negative – How rarely its depth is utilized – we see conversations nearly every day.

We hear transfer rumors as well. although that is not just limited to midfielders. We know Real Madrid are interested in a number of midfielders, like Ryan Gravenberch, Aurelien Tchouameni, Florian Wirtz, and so many others. Now, there is one midfielder that has been linked with Real Madrid for a long time, and according to a report, he wants a move to Real Madrid.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Fabian Ruiz, a player that has previously been heavily linked with both Real Madrid and Barcelona, wants to join Los Blancos.

Real Madrid won’t really be interested in Fabian now, for one reason or the other

I don’t think Fabian Ruiz would ever be able to play for Real Madrid. It’s not because he’s not talented, he is! I really like him, but the club has to want him back, as well. The timelines need to match. Their need (or, want) for a young midfielder is higher, a player that would accept a limited role now but really get into his groove when it’s finally time to do so.

There’s no doubt that Fabian is an excellent player and has a high ceiling, but would he really be accepting a bench role at the age of 25? Would he not want to start for a club instead? Is that not why players like Odegaard, Kovacic, Llorente – who struggled to make their mark in a midfield as good as this – left the club?

Even though Fabian is good, there is no reason for Ancelotti to prefer him over Kroos or Modric right now. The Italian coach just doesn’t trust most of his bench players, and I doubt that would change, if Fabian does join and Ancelotti ends up staying for another season.

When Real Madrid wanted to sign Fabian, it was when the player was young and would’ve accepted a smaller role. Now, it’s tougher to see that be the case, considering the fact that they now have Camavinga as well. Not to mention, the Spaniard cost a good amount of money as well. Would Real rather spend that money on an even younger player? I think you know the answer.
