Real Madrid Transfers: Kylian Mbappe won’t betray his ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Florentino Perez
Real Madrid continue to count down the days until Kylian Mbappe can officially join them. Because until that day comes, the rumor mill will be filled with news items from PSG, as the Ligue 1 giants attempt to keep putting pressure on the world’s best player to renew.
The contract offers to Mbappe are already comically large, but even PSG understand that Mbappe is about more than the money. Joining Madrid and being the superstar at the Bernabeu is a childhood dream for him. It is the next step in his illustrious career.
And he seems intent on following through on this dream. According to Andres Onrubia of AS – a reporter who covers Ligue 1 and has followed the Kylian Mbappe transfer story closely – there exists a sort of verbal “gentleman’s agreement” between the PSG No. 7 and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.
Onrubia confirmed earlier reporting from Le Journal du Real’s Pablo Gallego that Mbappe gave Perez his word that he would join Los Blancos. Going back on that agreement would be betraying Perez, and in all likelihood, the end of Mbappe’s dream to ever play for Madrid. Nobody gets away with slighting Perez. Not even the elite players.

Mbappe has been 100 percent professional with PSG throughout this transfer saga. Even when they made untoward statements to the media about how he would never leave, Mbappe did not lash out against the club, which is a part of the city he loves.
Because of Mbappe’s utmost professionalism to PSG, Madridistas can have confidence he will exhibit that same code of honor to Real Madrid, Perez, and the club as a whole. Mbappe is someone who knows that a person is only valuable as their word, and he is something of a breath of fresh air in a world where it seems as if people only have dollars signs in their minds and are jumping to the next big thing. Granted, Mbappe stands to make a lot of money and gain a lot of notoriety in the Spanish capital, but you get the point. Nothing is stopping him from his goals.

That there is an agreement between Perez and Mbappe is a strong sign that no matter what reports are churned out by the media in France, the young forward is headed to Madrid. When Perez gets a commitment from someone, that’s the end of that.
