Real Madrid showing interest in another high-priced Bundesliga star
It’s pretty clear that Real Madrid’s attack needs some more work, even after the gigantic leap that Vinicius Junior has taken this season. Obviously, Real Madrid are leading the race for Erling Haaland, who has reportedly said ‘yes’ to the club already.
They’re also very close to signing Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer next season. And, according to reports, they’re keeping close tabs on Serge Gnabry’s contract situation at Bayern Munich, which currently expires in 2023. They also signed Enrique Herrero from Frankfurt very recently.
But, there is another player that Real Madrid are reportedly interested in. Moussa Diaby has been playing out of his mind this season. He already has 15 goals and nine assists with the club, and has taken a great leap, sort of similar to Vinicius Junior, but maybe not as big.
According to AS, Real Madrid are keeping tabs on Diaby, and they are among many top European clubs interested in signing him. The problem lies in the transfer fee that Leverkusen want for him. According to this report, they’d ask for 100 million euros for Diaby.
Real Madrid don’t need to sign Moussa Diaby if they’re already getting Kylian Mbappe
I’m scratching my head right now, thinking about why Real Madrid would be interested in signing Diaby. There is no doubt that he is an exceptional talent, and that he’d do a great job if he ever joins Real Madrid. I am not downplaying his abilities as a footballer. I don’t see the need, and I also don’t see the worth.
Firstly, Real Madrid are (potentially) already getting Kylian Mbappe next season, so why would a winger be needed in the first place? Vinicius Junior has been playing exceptionally well, and with Mbappe into the mix, there is no need for a third winger.
Now, you’d consider it if the club was going for someone to make an impact off the bench, but here’s the thing: You don’t spend 100 million euros on a player who’s going to be playing off the bench most of the time. Secondly, the player needs to accept a bench role for that to happen, which for sure isn’t happening here.
And like I said, Diaby is great, but I don’t think he is worth 100 million euros. Of course, there is a huge chance that the involved clubs would negotiate the price, but it’s still going to be upwards of 60 million, and there’s absolutely no way Real would spend that much when they already have Vinicius there, who joined for less than half the fee.

Either way, Real Madrid are probably going to try and spend that money on signing Haaland first, and even if they are not able to, I genuinely doubt they’d turn to Diaby, as he doesn’t solve any need – positional or otherwise – and he’s just too costly.
