Real Madrid’s second-choice striker, Luka Jovic hasn’t performed up to Real Madrid standards. Signed in 2019 from German Club Eintracht Frankfurt on the backdrop of a brilliant season, the Serbian striker hasn’t been able to hit the same highs in his career. He was allowed to return to his former club on a loan in the winter of 2020/21.
However, the loan move hasn’t worked in Jovic’s favor as he hasn’t been able to capitalize on his opportunities since the start of 2021/22. There were few bright performances against the likes of Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid. But, overall he has been hit a hit and miss for Los Blancos.
Opportunities are already scarce to come by under Carlo Ancelotti and Jovic has bottled a few great ones when Karim Benzema was sidelined two times with injuries in the season. Real Madrid isn’t a very patient club. For that matter, the Bernabeu faithful isn’t patient either.
It seems like Jovic’s future lies away from the Spanish capital. And, that means the club would be open to signing a replacement if and when Jovic departs. Here are a few options to consider.
5. Espanyol ST Raul de Tomas
The first player I would like to discuss is one of our own. He is a Madridista and this transfer could be a beautiful reunion. Even though he isn’t playing for Real Madrid at the moment, I often see in him the values of Madridismo shining brightly. That is why I had already written about a possible reunion. Espanyol’s Raul de Tomas has been stacking up the goals in LaLiga this season and has been a proper hitman of a striker with important goals against top clubs like Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Betis, and Sevilla.
With 13 goals and three assists from 24 appearances in the season so far, RDT is third in the Pichichi race behind Real Madrid’s dynamic duo of Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior, per WhoScored. He can be an ideal backup to Karim Benzema and has proven his finishing capabilities. He also brings to the table some nice dribbling skills along with excellent holdup play and tremendous heading abilities.
The best part about this transfer is that RDT is already a tried and tested option for Los Blancos. He is well versed with the Spanish conditions and LaLiga’s local rivals. There is no experimentation involved. The only problem I could see is his age. He is 27 at the moment and Real Madrid could look towards other younger targets if they are to replace Jovic and find Benzema a suitable backup. Hence, he ends in the last position on this list.
